This is camera 1 of 8 on the The Grapevine strip, in the lower third of the corridor in driving order. Caltrans does not publish a surveyed elevation for this camera, on I-5 at I-5 north of Templin Highway, Castaic, near Elysian Park, in Alameda County. Its frame is the official Caltrans CCTV still for this point on the road, and it refreshes with the state's own feed.
Down here the weather is usually the mildest on the corridor, which is exactly why this frame matters: when the lower third already shows chain controls, standing water, or wind blown debris, the summit above you is doing something harder. Read the low frames as the corridor's early warning, not its verdict.
Use this page as one instrument, not the whole panel. Its neighbors in the strip are linked below, two back and two ahead, so you can walk the road in stills before you drive it. The live corridor verdict at the top of this page remains the authority: it folds this camera's stretch of road together with the chain control checkpoints, the closure feed, and the message signs into one answer.
